Capital-"X": Walk 4 Life

From the Frontlines Walk 4 Life

CAPITAL – “X” about the “WALK FOR LIFE”

I will be walking through 12 states in total to get to Texas. All 12 states still have the death penalty. Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, DC, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and into the murder capital of the United States Texas.

I am still trying to map out the route. It's difficult because I can not walk on major highways. I have estimated the distance to be about 1700 miles. It may be more or less but around this distance. I walk about 3 to 3.5 miles per hour sometimes reaching 4 but other times slowing down to 2.5. I figure on average I will walk 3.5 miles per hour. I will need to walk a minimum of 8 to 10 hours a day to make it within 54 days.

As for why I am doing this walk there are many reasons, 3500 (prisoners) of them to start with. I unfortunately fell victim to the criminal justice system here in America. I am not the only survivor of our prison system that speaks out, there are many yea I am just speaking louder. Ever since the first time I was arrested and I seen for my self how not even prisoners but those accused of wrong doing were treated I felt a need to do or say something, it's wrong. I couldn't get out though, I could not get out of the web of the system. One small crime you are found guilty of, you are theirs for the next 2 to 3 years under direct supervision of the department of corrections. So for over 20 years I struggled to break free going in and out of jails and prisons. I have seen enough to testify. Beyond my experiences I went even further and studied the history of American Prisons, I studied the history of penology, I studied criminology as well as any political ties to the criminal justice system. I can identify with prisoners as I can also identify with slaves. That's what prisoners are they are slaves.
I know how easy it is to wind up on death row. I have experienced being taken for a crime I did not commit. You are helpless really. Without resources you are doomed here in America. I just can't stand by and allow this to continue seeing God has blessed me putting me in a position where I can at least attempt to make a difference, to make a change. I think every human has the responsibility to try and make things better. I think most people would agree, they would want to make this world a better place. Well in no way is killing a way of making anything better or right, there just is no justification for execution. This is first degree pre-meditated murder. The most grotesque crime if you ask me. Proper so called civilized citizens cramping up in room and performing what looks more like a satanic ritual then justice.
Not every murderer on death row is a cold blooded killer. These were situations that occur ed. Crimes of passion, crimes of rage, obsession all sicknesses we deal with in this world. Rather than to deal with the sickness it self, America deals with the inflicted, with the sick. With the ones society failed to raise properly. Let's face the facts. We neglect our children because we are forced to struggle just to survive. Our family structures are near non-existent this country is a breading ground for criminals. With hundreds of new laws every year, they just keep on creating more criminals.

I couldn't stand the injustice anymore. Once I realized the truth I couldn't just remain silent. I see many fighting the same battle but all the fights seem to be in vain. Maybe something like this walk could bring all those that fight together, fighting as one unit like an army. The prisoners have been calling for unity on the outside for years, but no one has listened. Groups fighting the same war, fight amongst each other. This is how society is, divided. Well to make change happen, we need to come together, we need to unite once and for all everyone, that's what this walk is all about. Living life, saving life, cherishing life, building life not destroying it. If we ever wish to see a better America, a better world stopping capital punishment is a good place to start.
I know what it feels like to be locked in a dark cell cut off from civilization. It's silencing of the worst kind. I vowed to speak for those I left behind when I left prison. For the first time in my life I am keeping my word.. Only we the people can make a change. Waiting for our government to make things change is just not an option anymore to  this is evident if you look at our crime and homicide rates. I am walking for the silenced. I will be speaking of them and for them as I walk. And I walk to also free myself from the mental prison I live in daily. Though I travel around the world I still remain in a deep dark mental prison, this is an everyday struggle. It's called prisonization. Though I am in the outside world, I am unaccepted fully, I am marked for life. And the damage from being dehumanized is done. i walk to try and free myself.
I also walk for the all the victims. Cause in truth we are all Vitim's here. Every death by murder or legal murder creates victims. I walk for every one of them to symbolize the search for true justice for I believe we have not found true justice or it's meaning yet.

Walk 4 Life. Yea, I am walking for every life that is effected by our criminal justice systems. For every life that has been taken by our leaders in the name of the people. Forget not one left behind, it's not one will be forgotten. "X"

Capital- “X” Human Rights Activist starts
"Walk 4 Life" to abolish the Death Penalty

By foot from Trenton, New Jersey to Austin,Texas

Andre Latallade aka Capital-"X" will walk from Trenton New Jersey, approximately 1,700 miles to Governor Perry’s mansion in Texas to bring awareness to the death penalty. Latallade is a hip hop artist and is known by the name of Capital-"X" on stage. He will walk through 10 of the 12 states with the highest executing rates in the USA.
He says he is trying to "build a bridge between the two groups of victims, the executed, and their families and the victims and families of violent crimes.”

The walk will begin on March 31, 2008 in Trenton, New Jersey around 5PM. Capital “X” will finally reach Austin, Texas after approximately walking 54 days 8 hours a day minimum. He will participate in the Hip Hop Association's HHEAL Festival in the Bronx, New York and pause there for 3 days.

But what is the goal of this walk? Andre in his own ords:
”Separated we call for life or death, I say we unite and call for solutions."

He asks that life without parole be called for as opposed to the death sentence.

"I think it can bring unity. Unite everybody that is fighting injustice, and keep that unity till the end. Can we make this big enough to apply international pressure on the USA? I have Italy behind me as well as London organizations, France, Denmark and Croatia. I am reaching out to Puerto Rico."

Different non profit organizations and human rights groups from these countries support Capital- “X” on his "Walk 4 Life”, such as Justice For.org in Germany.

Capital-"X" will try to raise funds to educate people on the death penalty, and monies raised from this event will be donated to murder victim's families and abolitionist groups. Anyone interested in supporting him and uniting in this cause to Stop Capital Punishment, can email Andre at this address: projectrevolution2010@gmail.com

Donations much appreciated.

Capital-"X" tries to bring awareness to the Death Penalty and the injustices caused by state murder. He walks 1700 miles through the country to speak out for those behind the walls. He speaks out for your loved one, friend, pen pal so let’s stand up and fight together in Unity against this injustice! Make his “Walk for Life” a full success by supporting Andre and by making the voices behind the walls heard! March 31

NEW JERSEY/TEXAS:

Ex-con rapper walks from Trenton to Texas to protest capital punishment. How far would you go to protest against the death penalty? For Andre Latallade, he'll walk 1,700 miles to advocate abolishing capital punishment.

Latallade, a Newark native who raps under the stage name Capital-"X," will start his "Walk 4 Life" journey about 5:30 this morning at the statehouse. Over 54 days, Latallade will head south toward the nation's capital then cut westward until he ends up at the governor's mansion in Austin, Texas the highest executing state in America.

"Being an ex-prisoner and being an ex-prisoner that changed," Latallade said last week, "I just believe that prisoners can change.
I think that we are incredible beings, and I think we should focus more on trying to preserve life instead of taking it away."

Latallade served 2 stints in the slammer, the 1st time on drug charges and the 2nd for resisting arrest. He said being in prison "is no joke" and that life imprisonment without parole is a sufficient replacement for the death penalty.

"Just being taken away from your existence, from your family, it's just
really tough," Latallade said. "When you walk by and you see the prisoners playing checkers it looks like, 'Oh, that's nothing'. They're coddling the prisoners. But it's an inner torment that these guys ain't gonna show you out in the open."

As Capital-"X", Latallade kicks rhymes advocating changes to the American criminal justice system. He'll be joined by an entourage that includes a diverse group of people.

"I have families of murder victims walking with me also," he said.

Latallade has researched capital punishment extensively over the years, even visiting several of the 27 European Union nations the EU bloc has long prohibited capital punishment.

"I made numerous trips to Italy, Germany, Austria," he said. "I went into the prisons there. They value life so much over there, and their communities are so much closer."

Latallade said it's unacceptable for the United States to have capital
punishment on the books when most advanced democracies have already abolished it.

"All of these other countries have abolished the death penalty, and they
do just fine," Latallade said.

Latallade will travel through roadways in 10 states during his 54-day walking journey. There could be some delays, he admitted, but he said he hopes to make it to Austin, Texas, before the U.S. Supreme Court makes its ruling on the constitutionality of lethal injection.

"I just want to kind of do my part to stop the killing," the prison rights
activist said. "I want to let people know that these are human beings in there."

anti-death-penalty walking tour and to listen to his music.

DAY 1 Walk 4 Life

Here we are, 40 miles into the Walk 4 Life. That's about how much
ground I covered today the first day in about 12 hours taking one
2 hour break to get some work done.I got to the State House in Trenton, NJ where Governor Corzine just signed the bill to become the first state to abolish the death penalty in over 40n years, at about 4:45am with my long time confidant Prince LSD. LS did roadside assistance all day. He did a great job leaving me to feel secure so to focus on the task at hand. Now I had asked for 500 people to join me at the State House to walk the first mile with me. I was a bit disappointed at the turn out. No one showed up. But this did not stop me. We took a quick ride to get some coffee and the morning news paper which made up for no one showing up to walk the first mile with me. The Capital of New Jersey's news paper the Trentonian ran a real nice story about the walk. Knowing a few hundred thousand people would be reading the story they titled "Stop Killing" had me pumped up and ready to walk. I actually didn't get started till 5:28am by the time we got back from the store. It wasn't real cold out, but it was very cool which was good, it made me walk faster. Within 15 minutes of leaving the State House I was crossing the Delaware river. It was still dark and not a lot of traffic at all, it was peaceful really. As you can imagine a million thoughts were running through my mind. The thought of Mumia and all the other captives in Pennsylvania sitting in cages waiting to be murdered made me walk more upright, like a guerrilla marching into combat.
I got my first phone call just as I was crossing the Delaware. A dear friend of mine from California called. I was surprised, figure it was like 3am in Cali. I was pumped up already but by the end of our brief conversation I was a fiery ball of energy. Yea the first 4 to 5 hours I was non-stop, I felt really good. Now, no one had chosen the first day for a prisoner. I actually think we were to dedicate it to all the death row prisoners in the country. We ran short on time to do something special but we will be honoring them all before the walks end. Anyway I took it upon myself to dedicate March 31, 2008 to Mumia Abu Jamal about a week before I began to walk. It seemed right seeing I was walking into the state the holds him captive. I thought of all the prisoners believe me not just those on death row. See I have been to some of the worst prisons in the country and I know any sentence is like a death sentence seeing that death is always a possibility in prison.

I want to say that not long ago, some time in late 2006 I got to travel to Italy for the first of many times. I love Italy. It was in Italy that I actually felt free for the first time in my life. It's hard to explain the feeling but I will say it felt great. I had never felt so at peace, I was in a great place. I felt a strong presence of God in Italy. I am saying this because this is what I began to feel as I walked today. It was not as intense as the feeling I had in Italy but it was a good feeling regardless. This feeling of freedom I believe we were born with it's just not recognized much in these very difficult and trying times. It was strange feeling this freedom here in the US where I have felt like a prisoner for as long as I can pretty much remember, it's crazy.

About 5 or 6 hours into the walk I was giving thanks to God for my partner doing roadside assistance. I had somehow missed a slight turn off and walked about 5 miles in a wrong direction. I called LS right away when I noticed. He picked me up and we drove back, tracking the distance from where I realized the mistake to where I made the mistake and LS then drove that distance in the right direction then he dropped me off. I was grateful for the foul up though because there were some great sights on that 5 mile stretch.

I didn't look at the time of day it was when I reached Philadelphia but let me tell you it was a great feeling for some reason. I never walked such a distance before so I'm guessing it was just seeing that sign, Welcome to Philadelphia. I felt like what I imagine a child feels like on Christmas morning, just breaking at the seams with joy. I say I imagine what a child feels like because I would not know. We didn't celebrate holidays when I was growing up. I quickly took out my camera and took a picture. It wasn't good enough, I ran halfway across the highway and got a great shot. The feeling of accomplishment was amazing even though I was only just starting my long journey to Texas. It was just great.

I am going to tell you from the very first moment the idea of doing this walk came to me I felt the Hand of God guiding this what I call movement. This is still very much so and I hope through my sharing you will all see the evidence of this. I pray for this. See I mapped out the walk as best I could using a map and map quest. I didn't get into many specifics I just made sure I was away from major highways. As I was walking I prayed for Mumia and his family as well as the victim Mumia is accused of killing and his family. I then came upon the sign above. I had no idea believe me. What's crazy is it fit into what my thoughts were on what this walk was to stand for. Building a bridge joining all the victims involved together. I was pretty much speechless after I took that picture thinking of how it all came together like it was planned. I believe it was to tell you the truth.

A few hours later into the walk I was met by my comrades Therapist and Unabeatz. We loaded my gear into their ride and they followed LS for a few miles till they learned the ropes of working roadside then LS headed back to Jersey. It was a great day even though is was raining most of the day, I seen a lot of beautiful sites and met some good people. I don't remember the exact stop time I stopped walking I believe after 6pm, I was just exhausted. I didn't even eat after walking. I just did a bit of work on my computer and did a couple of radio interviews set up by a dear friend in Maryland. Not long after hanging up with DJ RBI I passed out.

The first day changed me. I haven't pin pointed yet but yea, the experience had a very powerful impact on me. I am curious to see how this ends up really.

In closing I just want to say thank you to everyone who called as I was walking. And to everyone who wrote and text me. And thank you to everyone who prayed for me, God bless you all. I wouldn't have made it without you all. Till next time, peace, love and progress. "X"

Walk04

APRIL 1

Day two started with a 4:30am wake up. I was walking by 5am. I had only slept about 2 hours. The campaign to end capital punishment goes beyond the walk including writing this blog, putting together the video blogs, answering e-mails, doing interviews it's a full time job with plenty of over time.

I have to admit my body was sore, my feet were tender but I had to block all that out for this day I was walking for Brett Hartmann an innocent man on Ohio's death row. For sceptics reading this guilt or innocents has nothing to do with it, I am about forgiveness and preserving human life no matter what. I in truth only got to briefly read up on Brett's case but let me go beyond that, his family. Brett's family were with me in spirit as I walked, I could feel them. The amount of love they have for Brett is an inspiration alone.
For Brett his family sent me a custom shirt with his name on the back mine on the front very nice shirt. They also sent me like 5 packages of fliers to hand out bringing light to Brett's case. On top of that they made a donation and have written me a number of touching letters. I even got a letter from Brett. I have to say that yes the love involved here helped me get through day two.
There were a lot of hills on day two of the walk, not steep hills just long ones and I am talking one right after another. These are unforeseen things when you are looking at the map. Between the hills and stopping to tell people about Brett and the walk we didn't cover as much ground as day one, but we still managed to make our mark. Let me add the scenery was incredible. Once we were near the Delaware border there were some really breath taking scenes. My favorite was watching about a dozen white tail running through a field. I have never seen anything like it. It was really incredible.
My comrade Therapist did an exceptional job on the roadside assistance. I really wish he could stick around for the entire walk. We spoke to a lot of people. A quick stop at a Starbucks turned into a death penalty conference. I wanna say thank you to the people at Starbucks for the extra shot of espresso that got me through the last few miles.
I have to also thank everyone who called the radio stations in Maryland and Washington DC. The walk is growing by the day and I have it continues to grow. I pray more people get involved and that those already involved get more involved. This is how we will win this battle. Till next time. Peace and love, peace and love. "X"

Walk05

Day 4 WALK 4 LIFE

Day 4 was tough, it was the first day I walked alone without roadside assistance. It was tough because like after being dropped off where I stopped the night before a few miles into Maryland, I began to walk in what I thought was the wrong direction after about a mile and a half. I turned around only to realize I was going the right way, it was not a good way to start, but I just thought of my welcome the night before.
After loading up my gear in his car Malprak finished his day at work and scooped me up. I don't get to see mt brotha as often as I would like to so it was great to him. He was great. He grabbed us some dinner on the way to house. He loaded me up with carbs for the next day and we hung out with some of buddies. We were later joined by my dear friend Sonia who had set up some events for me at the University of Maryland coming up on day 5 of the walk. It was a great evening.
I walked alone but Malprak check on me every couple of hours as did Sonia and a host of others. I just zoned my thoughts on all the prisoners on death row. I know all to well how it feels to be locked in a cage. I prayed non stop for Norman Parker Florida Death row. I also thought of the children I was on my way to meet in Annapolis, Maryland where my good friend Tim, Malprak's brother had set up an event for me. I was determined to reach my destiny. See I needed to get to Annapolis a day earlier than I first planned. I had to walk in double time.
At one point I was walking along route 40 and an older gentleman pulled over and offered me a ride. I told him thank you but I am walking to Texas to bring attention to the death penalty. He said God bless you son and drove off. I then noticed that he pulled over again. I walked up to him and he reached out handing me a ball of money. He said, get yourself something to drink son and God bless you. I was near tears as I said God bless you back and he drove off. I didn't even look at how much he gave me till I got to a little convenience store where I bought a snack and something to drink. It was eleven dollars bless him. Not long after I left that store I came upon a bridge I was not allowed to walk over. I had to get a cab. The cabbie charged me five dollars to cross the bridge and I tipped him a dollar. With the drink and snack I bought, the cab ride and tip it came out to, yea, eleven dollars. God is something else. More later. Peace and God bless.

Norman Parker - Florida Death row. Keep ya head up!

WalkDay4

DAY 5 OF WALK OF LIFE

This here is just one of the reasons I walked so hard the first couple of days. This is why I didn't let shin splints slow me down. I actually wasn't supposed to arrive in Annapolis till the fifth, but when they offered me the chance to speak at the Stanton Community Center on the forth, I told them I would be there. They asked how and I told them I will walk faster. Little man in the picture with me made every bit of pain I went through worth it.

I spoke to a room full of kids and parents. I am not some amazing speaker, I just just share all the wrong choices I made in life hoping people listen so they won't make the same ones. I did a little accapella and that about it. It meant a lot to me because I came from the projects. My pops did bust his back side to get us up out of there but I ended up back in the projects. Talk about walking 4 life, I pray Micheal there in the picture took what I said to heart and fights for his community. Places like Clay street where little man lives is where authorities go to find occupants to fill prison cells. Yea including the ones on death rows.

The evening was in remembrance of Martin Luther King. A film based in these times was the main event of the evening. You're going to have to look it up trust me it's worth it. http://www.pipandzastrow.com/trailer.htm

I was watching the film and little man snuck up to me and said "you did a great job" and then he gave me a little bear hug. I never met him before but let me tell you I love this kid like a brother. By the end of the evening me Michael were homeboys without question. I will be returning to spend more time with him. I wanna do all I can to make sure the state of Maryland keeps they hands of him. I love kids so any time I get asked to work with kids I drop everything and I am there. It takes a village to raise a child is my favorite saying because it's so true. If we as a people would stop being so dependant on those that oppress us, imprison us and even kill us and we came together maybe there wouldn't be so many brothers and sisters sitting on death row. We need each other but for some strange reason we have forgotten this.
I have to thank brotha Zastrow who was in the house and of course my brotha Timmy Grins for making this happen. Don't get it twisted this event had everything to do with the Walk 4 Life. I got to tell the 150 some odd peoples there what I was doing. They all seemed to agree with me on the death penalty. There was a lot of love up on Clay street. Enough to gas me up for day six. Word up, I could still feel little mans arms squeezing me. I feel like I was touched by an angel. Yea; I was. Peace love and progress.

Howard Neal - MS death row (on death row for 28 years)
Sammy Capers - CA death row. I walked for these brothas, prayed for these brothas and will continue to do so.

How to dedicate a day to a prisoner

Info on dedicating a day to a prisoner:

Thank you so much for inquiring about dedicating a day of the Walk 4
Life campaign to your loved ones and also your offers of extended
support. Capital-"X" along with Project Revolution, OnLoq.Com and a
host of other volunteers are looking to make this into a world wide
campaign involving everyone from everywhere, We urge you all to
partake in the promoting of Walk 4 Life and help the voices of the
voiceless be heard. Help let the people be heard.

Each inquiry will receive a one day dedication to as many prisoners as
they list. There are only approximately 54 days so we want to make
sure everyone gets a day. Unless you have specified a day "X" will
pick one and you will be notified. We are dedicating many sites to the
walk so the names of prisoners will be immortalized in one of the most
powerful movements this struggle has seen in a long while.
Any help in making this walk a complete success will be greatly
appreciated we have many positions that need to be filled. If you are
interested please inquire. Maybe someone close to you can fill a
position.

Please let all your loved ones on the row, in prisons or county jails
know about what is going down. We would love to hear from them so
please send us their comments.

Though it is not necessary to have a day dedicated to your loved ones
we do encourage everyone to make a small donation if it's possible. If
not it's OK. Some of you may be able to raise a small collection at
your places of employment. This is a Walk 4 Life, and anyone should be
willing to support life. No donation is to small. All monies will be
used to push an international campaign to end the death penalty.
Varies organizations will received donations from collected funds.
Initial funds will be collected by 305375 The Voice of the Voiceless a
non-profit organization founded by Capital-"X". All Capital-"X"
merchandise sold also goes towards the Walk 4 Life fund.
Until our official web-site is up and running you can make donations
and or purchase merchandise on Capital-"X"'s myspace page,
www.myspace.com/capitalxaka305375

The entire walk will be filmed for Internet as well as documented by an on line journal packed with photos and audio blogs to use for world wide promotion. It is action like this that needs to be taken if we are to end this madness. All those that make a donation or purchase merchandise will receive daily up-dates, pictures and videos throughout the entire walk. We are working hard to make this campaign be the one that sees us to victory. Again thank you very much for your support from Capital-"X" and everyone here at Project revolution. In solidarity.

INTERVIEW WITH CAPITAL - „X“
aka 305375 HEBREWS 13:3

After spending the first two decades of his life on the streets and in prison turned Capital “X” his life around and became a prisoner rights activist and confident supporter of death row inmates. He speaks out for the voiceless as member of Szena Voce, a none-profit organisation based in Italy that was founded to speak out for all those who go unheard.

Capital X, please tell us more about your life and how you've spent your youth.

I was born in Brooklyn, New York the youngest of three. We lived in the housing projects in Bedford-Stuyvesant. I was only a couple years old when we moved to the South Bronx. From there forward I did a lot of moving around. I ended up dropping out of school after completing the eight grade, I was already involved with drugs. I started using drugs at 12 years old. By 14 years old I was selling. By 15 I was recruited by a drug posse, by 16 I was full member of the Fagen Family in Harlem, New York. By 17 I was in jail for the first of many times.
My life wasn't as tragic as the many I know of, but it was as if it was just enough for me to be a witness. From that first time I went to jail I struggled to break free from the criminal justice system amounting approximately 13 years behind bars on numerous occasions being sentenced to prison three times serving one and one half years, four years and then five straight from 96 to 2001. Most of my prison time was due to drugs and weapons charges. I have some assaults on police which make me a violent offender, basically now I am a moving target for life considered to be dangerous. This label was put on me an never earned. I have been a member of a number of gangs, in the end I was an officer of what America calls one of the most feared violent gangs, known to kill it's own members that do not comply with their laws. I don't discuss this much because though I am not active anymore, I am a member for life. I am only non active because I was given a pass to walk the path I am now on. If I stray from this path, I will be called back to active duty.
I got tired of falling victim so I began to re-build myself. I began to study. I did return to school while in prison and acquired my high school diploma. I graduated from 2 drug programs. I enrolled in Bible college and later after my release went on to community college where I studied music business and music technology. Even holding the highest grades possible, having been hired to work as the teachers aid at my college and have been highly recommended by my dean for a position at a company in New York was not enough for them to discriminate against me for my past. They took all hope away from me once again. Seeing society was not going to allow me to become a part of it even after I had paid my debt to them, I began to transform myself into a prisoners rights activist. An here I am today, an international prisoners rights activist. You can only silence the truth for so long.

What style of music do you do?

Style of music I do is what most would call hip hop, not knowing hip hop is a culture based on five different elements one being rap. I picked up the art of rapping growing up on the streets. A number of guys I grew up with are considered the founders of the art. Almighty Kay Gee of the Cold Crush Brothers is like my brother and he is one of the founders. I have been rapping and writing poetry ever since I could remember really. Before hip hop was ever born I used to write poetry and little rhymes. Now that I rap with a purpose, I married two of the biggest aspects of my life and call it Raptivism. I am a Raptivist. Rapper/Activist.

Where did you perform your songs and are there any upcoming shows?

I perform all over the world, well trying to get all over the world. I have performed in eight different countries including the USA, I also speak on an array of topics and hold workshops incorporating hip hop and serious social issues. I have performed at elementary schools, middle and high schools. I have performed in a maximum security prison in Modena, Italy. And I have done conferences, rallies, shows in Church's, youth clubs and concert venues, live on radio I perform where ever they call me to.
I am scheduled to speak and perform at the University of Maryland, (College Park) in Baltimore March 8, 9, 10, and 11. April 8-10 I will be at the Raphael Hernandez School of the Performing Arts (IS 217) in the Bronx, New York speaking to kids for The Hip-Hop Association. In September I am scheduled to perform in Rome for Hip Hop Parade, and in November in Modena, Italy.

So the music has always been an important part of your life and you call yourself a Raptivist. Can you tell us what a Raptivist is?

Yes music is my life along with fighting in the struggle. It is where my passions are. Seeing I mostly rap about social and political issues I don't see myself as just a rap artist. I am not looking to become a famous rapper. Though I have been inspired by many rappers of course, I have been inspired more by the likes of activists who have made big impacts on the world. George L. Jackson, Stanley Tookie Williams, Mumia. I married my two passions rapping and activism and they bore a child, raptivism. Speaking truth in rhyme, making people aware of the injustices in rhyme. Calling for unity and action in rhyme, this is raptivism. War music.

What makes you such a strong opponent of Capital Punishment?

I am a child of God, a follower of the teachings of Christ. I studied the Bible and understand that this practice is wrong. It was just in the Old Testament, but the coming of Christ brought hope, it brought forgiveness. I clearly understand the order to which God has set forth. I just don't understand why a country that claims God can't see this. They are blind with vengeance here, hungry for revenge. I know all to well how easy a situation can arise where deadly force must be used. On the streets I found myself in many situations that could have landed me on death row. Does killing someone actually make me worthless? What about Moses? He was a murderer, but was forgiven by God. Most of the characters in the bible were the misfits of society. These situations that occur are all unique, you can't just make it black and white, life or death. There is no fairness to this. If you are to kill those who kill, what of the soldiers that kill innocent people in Iraq? Where is the justice for those families? Or do they not matter because they are not Americans? Well they may not be Americans but they are humans, just as prisoners are humans not monsters. I can identify with those on death row this is why I fight for them. There are a lot of innocent men on death row, and of the guilty, most would never kill again. There are few that should be locked away for a life time of reform. I can't stand injustice, especially when it is being fed by the unjust.

Your song 999330 is dedicated to Anthony Haynes, Texas death row inmate No 999330. What makes his case so special to you?

999330, Anthony is my brother, there are no other words to explain how I feel for him. His case is special for a number of reasons. Let me first say I identify with Anthony because our lives were similar. We didn't come from terrible families, we came from struggling families. When a child is not getting the proper structure he tends to seek his own way, often going the wrong way. I clearly understood Anthony's situation because I have been there. I just got lucky. I understand why Anthony's life took the turn it did. I understand why he was carrying a gun, and I understand why he ended up shooting a man to death. Was it wrong? Of course. Should he die for this? No. Officers of the law that kill innocent men and women are often vindicated. The murders are justified because of the situation, how it all played out. In Anthony's case, they just saw a cop killer, when he had no way of knowing the man he killed was a police officer dressed in normal clothes traveling in his civilian car. This is a clear case of revenge. Anthony has grown and developed into a strong man. Far from the scared confused 18 year old that committed the act of murder. I believe Anthony is of value and can do a lot of good in society if given the chance. If society forgave Anthony and gave him a chance, if they can except him like they accept the children we send over seas to kill for us, we can learn a lot. He could help us avoid this from happening again. See he has the answers. We keep killing the answers to our problems. It's wrong. This man deserves a second chance. He has never denied what he has done. He is honest and remorseful. He is a changed man and his case if investigated properly holds proof that this was not in truth a capital murder case. It was made a capital murder case because the victim happened to be an officer. Anthony would have been charged with aggravated man slaughter in most states along with weapons charges, he would serve 15 to 20 years. But he is in Texas.

Do you plan to record a full album?

I have been working on my album since 2004. It is almost complete. The title is "305375" 305375 was my last prison number, I emphasize MY LAST. I am looking to release it in June as I am in the studio now. With the walk, I may have to push the date back, but the release will be this year.

On March 31 starts your action Walk 4 Life in Trenton, New Jersey. The 1.700 mile long walk will lead you through 10 of the 12 states with the highest execution rate. Are there any shows and events planned? And which states will you visit?

Let's see I walk through Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina, I will try to pass through a part of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and into Texas. Yea, I will touch nearly the entire murder belt, ending up at the buckle. So far I believe Washington DC is putting together an event for when I reach there and of course I have heard of movements in Texas for when I arrive there. I am hoping more events and fund raisers will be put together as this comes together.

You will finish your walk after 54 days in Austin, Texas the busiest killing state of the USA. Where is the final end of the Walk 4 Life and can the people meet you there?

Yea, I am going to end the walk at the Governors Mansion in Austin. I am going to invite the Governor for coffee. Everyone can follow me through the web sites being put up and meet me there. I will be in Texas for 10 days or so after I arrive doing radio shows and other events, supporting those visiting prisoners on the row.

How did you strike on the idea to make this walk? And what is your goal with this walk?

I truly believe this idea comes from God. With the goal of unifying the people, saving lives in the end. I want to bring international attention to the fact that so many countries have stooped this barbaric act yet almighty America still sees it fit to kill it's own citizens. Puerto Rico where my people are from is a common wealth of the USA yet Puerto Rico has not had the death penalty since 1929. I want this walk to mark the beginning to ultimate end of capital punishment.

Walking full 54 days is a real challenge, how will you manage it to hang on?

The people will help me hang on. The letters I have received are fuel. The prisoners are fuel. What I have endured up until this point is my fuel. This will be another aspect of my redemption. God will be with me, I will not grow weary.

How can people support you during the walk?

People can support first by making donations. It is important to have funding to make this action a complete success. You can make an electronic donation from my myspace site. www.myspace.com/capitalxaka305375

Or you can mail a check or money order. Make check or money order out to Voice of the Voiceless and send it to: 30575Voice of the Voiceless, P.O. Box 892, Pine Brook, N.J. 07058 Also by spreading the word, collecting donations, setting up events. We are trying to make this an international effort that won't stop after the walk. We need continued support and unification.

Do you have any website?

I have a few web sites I wish everyone to visit.

What are your wishes how the people could support you?

With a lot of prayers and love most important. And in any any other way possible.

Thank you very much for sharing this with us, but before we end this interview, is there something else you wanna tell the people out there?

Thank you. Yea killing is wrong, there's no question about that. But we need to stop looking at those who kill as the problem. What lead them to kill is where the real problem is. We need to come together as a people again and battle these worldly problems with intelligence. We can not continue letting ourselves be lead by ignorance. There are intelligent answers we just haven't taken the time to search for them. Killing killers is not the answer for it breeds more pain and sorrow into a world that is already drowning in such. Let us make the sacrifices needed to prove we want change, to prove we will not stand for this anymore. We must succeed, because when we do, it will be the true beginning of change. Only we can make this happen. Not any one person we vote into any office. This must be done for the people, by the people. One Love, One Struggle. "X"

TO ALL GROUPS, ORGANISATIONS AND FIGHTERS

The “Walk for Life” is not only meant to be an Event that draws attention to the death penalty, but also to unite all the groups, organisations and other people. None of the groups is strong enough to end the Death Penalty alone, but if we all consolidate can we develop the full power of the Abolishment Movement! The broken system can’t withstand this power and the end of the Death Penalty will be within our grasp! This is what we all are fighting for day by day: the abolition of the Death Penalty!
Every group or person may have his personal goal in this fight, but every one of us has one goal in common, and if we put aside all differences that may exist, will we be able to reach it in the near future. This message is a call for Unity to everyone who’s in one or another way involved in the fight against the Death Penalty. Italy, England, France, Germany and Croatia have already joined this action and Puerto Rico will follow.
We encourage everyone to get in touch and to consolidate with us! Every single person makes a difference and is able to ad more power to the Movement! Hundreds of prisoners will die, except we end the Death Penalty before the state murders them and this is for most of them the only chance to survive!
WE are the ones who can end it!
